Course Overview
The NYS 18-Hour Pistol Permit Safety Course is a state-required training program for individuals applying for a New York State pistol permit. This course provides comprehensive instruction in firearm safety, legal responsibilities, and practical handling skills. Students will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to safely and legally carry and store firearms in accordance with New York State law.
Training includes both classroom instruction and supervised practical exercises covering firearm safety, state and federal laws, situational awareness, conflict de-escalation, and safe firearm handling techniques.

What is included in the course?
All course materials are included in your registration. Students will receive classroom instruction materials, safety guidelines, and any required documentation needed for applying for your pistol permit including the application along with a properly formatted photo to submit with your application.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations made at least one week prior to the course start date are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within one week of the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund or a full credit towards a future class.
What should I bring to class?
Students must bring a valid government-issued photo ID. We also recommend bringing a notebook and pen for note-taking. All other required materials will be provided.
Is there an age requirement to take this course?
Yes. Participants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for a New York State pistol permit application. Generally, students must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to possess a firearm in New York State.
Do I need to attend all sessions?
Yes. Full attendance is required for successful completion of the 18-hour course requirement. Missing any portion of the course may require rescheduling to a future class. Instructor must approve.
